As an AM Trainee, you join APG’s mission to invest responsibly for current and future generations. Whether your interests lie in markets, data, sustainability, risk, operations or strategic portfolio support, you will discover how different disciplines collectively contribute to APG’s core mission.
The role
During this 2-year program, you rotate across four different teams, each for six months. You will experience various sides of asset management, for example:
- Using data, research and modelling to uncover insights on themes such as macroeconomic shifts, sustainability, risk exposures and portfolio positioning;
- Contributing to strategic innovation projects, such as improving investment processes, developing sustainability frameworks or exploring new analytical tools;
- Supporting portfolio managers in analyzing market developments and their effect on multiasset portfolios;‑asset portfolios.
- Working with investment teams such as Fixed Income, Listed Equities, Private Equity, Treasury & Trading, and Real Assets like Real Estate and Infrastructure.
Your assignments will be diverse, sometimes analytical, sometimes strategic and sometimes operational. APG manages most of its investments internally, so you get a front row seat to the full investment value chain.

What you would do
During your 2-year Traineeship with APG:
- You will work on four diverse assignments across various departments within the AM organization; the last three rotations you can choose yourself; each assignment lasts six months;
- During each assignment, you will work on your assignment, and you also actively contribute to its day-to-day activities;
- You will go through a steep learning curve, both personally and professionally;
- You will be assigned your own mentor, field coach, and buddy.

- A master’s degree, with excellent academic results, in (Sustainable/Corporate) Finance, (Financial) Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics, Business Engineering or another technology relevant field;
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a strong passion for shaping the future of sustainable investing;
- Motivation to learn tooling such as Power BI and programming languages such as Python, .NET, Azure, Databricks or C#;
- A clear link or connection to the Netherlands (through living or studying);
- Initiative, strong interpersonal skills, numerical acumen, and creative problem-solving abilities;
- A digital mindset and eagerness to learn;
- English proficiency;
- Extra‑curricular experience (committee or board membership, (voluntary) work) is a plus.
What we offer you
- A gross salary of €4,119 (40 hour week). Please note that the starting salary and weekly working hours are the same for every APG Asset Management Trainee and are not negotiable.
- A guaranteed year-end payment of 8.33% and vacation allowance of 8%.
- Monthly vitality contribution of 0.8%;
- 27 vacation days, plus Diversity Day, Diversity Day (exchange of fixed holidays, such as Good Friday with another religious holiday);
- Two “future days” per year. You can use these days for your own future or for society, and they count as working time;
- Firstclass public transport card for commuting;
- The office is in Amsterdam. We work in hybrid mode, so working from home is possible. For working from home, you receive an allowance of €850.- with which to set up your workstation ergonomically plus an internet allowance of €30.- net per month;
- A vitality budget of €200.- net per year to be spent on activities and resources for a healthy living and working style. In addition, you get discounts on subscriptions to many gyms and fitness centers;
- Reimbursement of study costs, such as CFA certification;
- A two-year traineeship contract designed to accelerate your growth (duration fixed and nonnegotiable);
- And needless to say: an excellent pension scheme.
