Internship Opportunity in Advanced Container Terminals

Do you get excited when driving through the Rotterdam harbour between the huge terminals, watching the largest vessels in the world and impressed by some of the most advanced industrial terminals & plants in the world? Would you like to work with some of the biggest industrial automated equipment in the world? At Konecranes Equipment Control Systems & Services (ECSS), we build the software to automate container handling equipment and we optimise terminal operations for increased efficiency.

Large automated terminals place high demands on their operations and systems. We believe that our software, TEAMS, is the only available equipment control system (ECS) in the world to operate reliably and efficiently for every type of automated (and semi-automated) equipment. The system delivers significant benefits across operations, costs, safety, automation integration and efficiency under all conditions. We continuously enhance our operational software by improving among others logistical decision-making based on data, experience, and new methodologies.

Using our proven emulation package (CONTROLS) we support in ensuring a smooth implementation of operational software for terminals worldwide. After the go-live we work on continuous improvement of our customers terminal by applying a holistic, data-driven improvement approach. We assess our client’s operational processes, systems, and equipment usage. We aim to provide a balance between cost, performance, capacity, maintenance, predictability, stability, and feasibility. During this process, we use our experience, data models, emulation (CONTROLS), training setups, and optimization tools.

To stay at the forefront of developments in the port and warehouse business and to consolidate our leading position in the field of software for automated container equipment, Konecranes is working on various R&D initiatives. These initiatives are often supported by students. We mostly work with students with a background in Operations Research, Engineering or Computer science, but we are open to any enthusiastic, motivated talent with affinity for optimization, modelling, and logistics.
