Our Trading Graduate Development programme gives candidates the opportunity to become experts in Trading and develop their competences to a high level. Right from day one, our Graduates are responsible and accountable for significant deliverables and work within diverse teams.
Within Trading we buy and sell crude oil, gas, refined products and chemicals, as well as derivatives of these on the world commodity markets. We’re committed to providing feedstock and income for Shell’s more physical operations whilst creating maximum value for every transaction.

A two year performance-oriented development programme will fast-track you to the role of fully-fledged Commodity Trader, and provide you with immediate access to some of the finest professionals in the industry. Your daily activities could involve:

  • Talking with reporting agencies, reviewing market conditions and monitoring news to identify business opportunities
  • Working with a team to decide our trading and pricing strategy
  • Working on the logistics of freight, pipelines and storage
  • Nurturing business partnerships in the market place.

During the highly flexible programme, you'll complete at least one rotation, which could be in either Operations or as a Trading Analyst, and if you demonstrate good performance and aptitude, you'll qualify as a Junior Trader.
You'll do a real job from your first day with Shell, applying creative problem solving skills, lateral thinking and persistence as you make a real contribution to the energy business. A Trading Manager will be personally responsible for your development, and formal training will be assigned on the basis of your individual needs.
You'll also have the dedicated support of a mentor from another trading desk, so you can gain exposure to another branch of the business and develop a thorough understanding of market conditions and the 'life of a deal'.
